World Down Syndrome Day 2016
Not one single day goes by that the joy of Welles doesn't overwhelm our home. Not one single day goes by without countless hugs, smiles and giggles from that boy. Not one single day goes by that I don’t thank the heavens above for my sweet son AND his diagnosis. That’s right, I’m grateful that my son was born with that one extra chromosome causing him to be a beautiful child with Down Syndrome! I celebrate the heck out of Down Syndrome and the individuals that have it! Sure, it might add some extra doctors appointments and learning curves (for him and us), and sure, there are some inconveniences with added health precautions and therapy for speaking, mobility, and day-to-day activities… BUT that’s nothing when you get the trade-off of looking into the eyes of the purest little soul of the happiest little human, every. single. day. So while this is something our family celebrates daily, we love that the rest of the world has the chance to celebrate and advocate on March 21st!
HAPPY WORLD DOWN SYNDROME DAY (tomorrow ;) )!
When my friends over at Oilo proposed doing a “big boy” nursery for Welles in celebration of WDSD, I was thrilled. Thrilled and touched to have multiple companies posting and recognizing this special day, and also thrilled to create a fun, bright and happy little space for Welles to learn and explore in.
I’m truly grateful to all those out there advocating for my sweet boy and his pals. We still have a long way to go, considering individuals like Welles are still institutionalized and undervalued in some parts of the world. So today (and every day) you’ll find me over here and on Instagram shouting their worth! Feel free to join in. ;)
