"Big Girl" room
When we moved Scarlett to a new bedroom, I decided to give her space a little face-lift. While, only four years old, she insisted on a “big-girl” room. If you know Scarlett, likely, it’s not hard for you to imagine her making such a request. Now I’m not trying to be one of those parents, who talks about how smart their kids are, but in all honesty, that girl has a mind beyond her four little years. She picks up on everything and internalizes all thoughts and emotions very deeply. It can be dangerous, leaving me nervous about some stupid tweenage show she saw, as I listen to her use phrases like “that is so, like, insanely ridiculous!” or “missed me, missed me, now you gotta kiss me!”. But on the flip-side, she also loves learning about things that might fly right over your average four-year-olds head. So I try to channel that little mind of hers to absorb things that are inspiring, uplifting and not too scary-mature. Okay, where am I going with this and what does it have to do with a room makeover?? So one day I came across Birds Of AshMae, and her work jumped out and gave me some serious warm and fuzzies! This beautiful art would be one way to channel that darling little mind in a direction that will educate and empower my little, big girl.
“We Brave Women” is AshMae’s slogan for this specific line of art. And now we have some of the most brave and incredible women in history, highlighted all over Scarlett’s wall. You can do anything, be anything and make a real difference in this world. That is what I want her to know and that is what inspired her “big-girl” bedroom.
I love that AshMae did a custom picture of Scarlett to hang among these great women. We now have chats and quizzes about the brave and incredible individuals that are hanging on her bedroom wall. Right now, she wants to be a pilot, like Amelia Earhart. Well that or a Barbie Rock Star… But hey, she has the power to be either!
A couple other favorite details about her room... Obviously that amazing wallpaper designed by Natalie Malan Studio for Spoonflower. The serious "pop" (slight understatement) of color makes it a happier little room to dwell in! And with the stick and peel option, it was cake to put up. Lot's of heart eyes for that. And her Beddy's zip-up bedding has seriously changed my life! My four-year-old can make her own flipping bed. Is that a choir of angels singing?! Nope, just me. They are awesome and gave me a code for you to use so you also, never have to make your child's bed again! See below. Also, that wood work Scott did around the wallpaper and below. 👌🏼 What a guy. It took him maybe ten hours, but I love how it turned out.
