And we're back!
Back to school, ready or not! Ready… we were ready. I did a post a few weeks back on being anxious for school to start and anxious to feel more structured. Now here we are… school has started, and we are trying to get into a good rhythm, and adapt to this new routine. Being a “routine” mom is a new thing for me… I might even be good at it by then end of the school year! A girl can hope…
So far, I am loving that our days are a little bit more predictable and that my kids have great activities and therapies lined up (gymnastics, music class, music therapy and speech therapy). Along with all the activities comes a lot of car time! Anyone else able to compare their vehicle to a giant dumpster?? (insert hand raised emoji) Mine is straight up trashed these days. We’re talking about applesauce smeared in car seats, school hand-outs scattered, tupperware from car meals, and maybe a diaper or two throughout the three row minivan! Also, a few outfit changes and a bazillion pairs of shoes. We keep it classy over here.
Thank heavens for carpools. Speaking of, one of the little girls in our carpool said “wow, your car is extremely dirty!” and I agreed as I pushed chick-fil-a trash aside to make room for her booster seat.
[These darling backpacks that you see throughout this post are by Stuck on You and they are AWESOME! Not to mention, there is no way of losing them or mixing them up with anyone elses;). We got to choose the colors and customize the logos, which Scarlett really enjoyed. They have just the right amount of pockets on the inside to organize and not lose supplies.]
One thing I can say that I am nailing this year is school prep! After years of failure-to-plan (no matter the phase of life), I now have a system… Each night I lay out Scarlett and Welles’ school clothes (so scar can’t fight me on outfit choices in the morning). I get their bags cleaned out and repacked and go through tomorrows day with them in the ways they each understand. The mornings are smooth now that I do all prep work at night. We also do the same thing almost every morning… healthy breakfast (my one meal that is consistently well rounded;)), gym and music play... then off to school! Last year I always felt like I was scrambling in the morning, and that frantic energy was passed on to Scarlett who was always flustered getting out the door. Now she feels more prepared and ready for each day knowing there is some sort of a system in place. Like I said, this is new and uncharted territory for our family, but it is making life so much smoother! Why has it taken me so long to do this??
Hoping everyone else's school year is off to a great start! Share any trips or tips with me, please!
