Scarlett's Birthday 2014
While I typically use this website to focus on the way Down syndrome blesses our family, today I need to switch it up a little. It is my darling baby girl's third birthday and she has equally blessed our home and family. To tell you the truth, I sometimes wonder if she is the reason Welles was given to us. It seems as if they hand picked each other in heaven! Let me tell you a little bit more about our birthday girl. We knew Scarlett was going to demand a spotlight from infancy. She did not like to be set down or put in her baby swing. She wanted to be held and adored at all times and made this message LOUD and clear. I call Scarlett my lover and my fighter. She has sass to rival Scarlett O'Hara and exhaust her mother to no end. But the love she exudes far trumps those challenging moments and melts my heart to a puddle. Moments after a mother-daughter altercation, she wraps her arms around me and tells me I'm her best friend and that she is sorry with genuine little eyes. She hates it when she's made mommy or daddy upset and hugs and kisses until it's all better. Scarlett does not give out her love freely. She can be a bit of a skeptic until you've proved worthy of her affection. Once you've done that she is your most loyal little sidekick! She's a passionate little thing, always wearing her heart on her sleeve. This can be both exhausting and also very rewarding. She doesn't hesitate when showing her love for you.
Someone once said to me "You think you'll be Welles' biggest advocate? You wont. She will." I am positive that they were right. She loves Welles beyond measure. I have to stop myself from being jealous of their bond sometimes;). Words cannot express how grateful I am that they are so deeply connected. You may be thinking that I can't possibly be sure it will stay that way, she's only three. If so, you're wrong. I am positive they will be this way forever. Nothing makes her happier than her brother. You can feel their love for each other from a mile away!
We are so very thankful for the little baby girl who made us parents. She brings us laughter every single day. She is my little best friend and daddy's little heartthrob. Happy birthday dear Scarlett, we LOVE you!
