Welles' Two Year Birthday

Welles' Two Year Birthday

Pretty perfect day for our perfectly happy little boy. He woke up smiley and spent the first thirty minutes of his birthday snuggling and playing peek-a-boo with mommy in bed. When Scarlett woke we headed down stairs to see a small pile of wrapped gifts for our freshly, two-years-old little buddy! We did our best the week leading up to prepare Scarlett for Welles’ day. I reminded her before reaching the last few bottom steps that there would be presents for brother, singing to him and people wishing him “happy birthday” all day long. She reminded me that I had already told her that and then ran to his gifts and said “So I turn four today, right?”  Wooosh… All that gearing up went right over her little head. Even though she wanted to play with his new toys (that she would normally have zero interest in) all day, she also spent much of the day calling him a “big boy” and smothering him with birthday kisses. The day rolled on almost as normal as every other week-day except for the cake-box cupcakes I threw together. The night before, I texted a few of Welles’ buddies and invited them to meet us at the park for some evening treats and Welles kisses. I’m terrible at throwing birthday parties. I hate decorating, I’m no good at whipping up yummy finger foods and I despise the clean-up after. What a scrooge, right? Maybe once my kids appreciate it, I’ll go to some effort and throw a pinterest-perfect party… Not likely though. I don’t have the talent to be a cute party thrower. Anyways, it was a perfect little, last-minute celebration. We went to his favorite park, and let him partake in his two favorite activities - swinging and sand-throwing.  Like I said, it was the perfect day for our perfect little boy. I don't believe the terrible two's will apply with this kid.
